The roses boast of victory
unfurl their red-flagged leaves
surviving pruner’s shears
for yet another year

You’d think they’d know by now
bareness lasts a simple while
The gardener knows his doings
of roses and their bloomings

And what of we, our constant pleas
Can we not see the same?
Our sunny care free days
are balanced by the rain
