Manzanita and Essence

Deep within
a smooth and crimson center
grows life
beyond boundaries of aging skin

Her outer layers
curl and peel
like the feel of wrinkles
in a laughing face

Etched dry
seasoned with years
she finds beauty in the flaws
that ground her

Releases those that bind
leaving them behind
like multi-colored memories
in a scrapbook made of earth

We arrive the same
naked without our costumes

Life adds layers

Growing embraces
a return to simplicity

Finding our essence
in the heart of God

It’s the doing that makes
each day an adventure

a worthy journey
where no thing is ordinary
