I saw her from a distance
The rose drew her near, captured her
with its exquisite shade of yellow
tinged with pink, its irresistible sweetness
She bent over, stopped her hurried steps
for a moment as if nothing else mattered
Her eyes closed on the inhale
deep, long, lingering
like she was listening to the final bars
of a sacred piece of music
She wanted to hold on to the moment
I could see it in her face
to breathe in the essence
this message of love
make it her own, not let it fade
at least for a day
I took a picture with my mind
knew this message was for me too
this blessing of paying attention
slowing down to smell the roses
